January is almost drawing to a close and it feels colder by the day to me. The heating is cranked up, Christmas is long gone, the winter woollies are well and truly on and gloves are de rigueur upon setting foot outside. It’s what my late grandmother would have called ‘bracing’. Weather to clear the cobwebs away, weather to demand wellingtons and of course, weather to demand roasted meats and veg. READ MORE
Friends of ours are about to have their first baby. We actually introduced them in a slightly aggressive way, so sure were we that they’d hit it off. This is the second match I have been involved in that has resulted in marriage. I reckon if this whole recipe thing goes wrong then I have a future in matchmaking. READ MORE
I try to mainly just post recipes on this website. The clue’s in the title. Just lately I’ve been feeling a bit like going off piste though. The first post in this line is today. And yes, it’s about food, but no, it’s not a recipe as such. (Kind of… more later). Anyway, it’s something I think you ought to know about. It involves eating something you usually eat, adding fat to it and then it being lower in calories. READ MORE

How’s January going? Busy? Cold? A little bit, ahem, all over the place? Same here. I always feel that as a family we plod through January in a fug of minor disorganisation, sleep walking our way back to normality after all the stodgy delights and late nights of yuletide. So culinary shortcuts, albeit delicious healthy ones, are very much part of my January plan to get us all back into the swing of things. READ MORE
So a couple of things happened. First up I made a vegan soup. I flirted with veganism as a teen and didn’t eat dairy for a whole year, but dolcelatte hauled me back in. It seems old habits die hard though as I often find myself making vegan dishes without even noticing. READ MORE
Well this is embarrassing. I promised that this recipe would be up on the blog in November. Seems I am out by a few months. Gosh, we’re even into a new year. READ MORE
I was discussing with a very famous vlogger recently (yes, I know, look at me down with kids, just call me Hollella) how pretty much everyone who loves their food is also a little bit absorbed in the workings of their digestive tract. To put it more bluntly, what goes in; must come out, and if you care about the quality and flavour of what you’re ingesting, then it’s only natural you want your digestion to work in harmony. Merry back to normal! We’re here, we made it! December is done. The tree’s down, the cards recycled and the kitchen raided of all sprouts, stilton and stollen. I love Christmas; love, love, love it, but, I do like getting back to normal just as much. A little like swapping exotic cocktails for a cup of tea when home from a holiday, it’s just plain comforting to put something familiar into your body. READ MORE
