Protein brownies

The question I get asked a lot is how to make treat recipes more healthy. People want to be able to reduce the sugar, reduce the fat, up the protein and still have the same flavour. (In short a lot of you want to have your cake and eat it – which I get, so do I). What I pretty much always say is that you can’t have everything. So, if you want less sugar, then eat less of the sugary thing, if you want less fat, eat less of the fatty thing. If you want more protein, eat more lean meats, cheese and protein rich pulses.

Except… well I have a recipe for you that adds more protein to brownies without making them rubbery or tasting in any way worthy. I’m not going to lie; they’re still rich in fat (which I don’t limit in my diet; my skin needs it) and include sugar too. But they have added whey protein which is not just for body builders and long-distance runners, oh no. Whey protein is a natural ingredient (it’s the by product of cheese production in case you didn’t know which means it’s rather sustainable) and it contributes to growth and maintenance of muscle. Which is important to anyone, but especially important if you’re female. It’s a complete protein, meaning it has all the amino acids your body needs. So, what I’m giving you here in this recipe is essentially a chocolate brownie that tastes good and is helping you eat a good diet. You can thank me later.
