I’ve made a conscious effort to pop more reviews up on the blog as I know from seeing my Facebook stats that people seem to like it. And I know that the summer holidays brings with it the conundrum of how to entertain the kids without spending a fortune or resorting to iPads.
In steps Wyevale Garden Centres who are running events from now until 31st August every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We took the boys to a craft event called ‘Bee Illuminated’ at Woodlands. Now I have one ardent crafter in my brood (he has his own craft trolley) but also a slightly loopy 3 year old with the attention span of a gnat, plus another son who has zero interest in making things. So entertaining 3 boys aged 3, 6 and 8 with varying degrees of interest in sit down activities was going to be a tall order.
We arrived, parked (loads of parking and really close to the entrance which is good news with Laurie as he does like to be carried and is VERY heavy) and hot footed it to the separate craft area where a very nice lady was waiting for us to start making little bees illuminated from the inside. The boys all seemed genuinely intrigued though I think the googly eyes helped.
The lovely lady (who shall have to remain named that, given I forgot to ask her name – sorry lovely lady) was very tolerant and kind to the boys. She showed us how to illuminate the bees we made using battery operated candles.
Look what we made!
And Charlie is THE most tolerant brother ever! “Look Charlie, there’s a bee on your head!”
Look! Two bees!
We had a great morning and the ‘lovely lady’ managed to keep the crafting engaging, reasonably short and very fun. There are LOADS more events on – take a look here: https://www.wyevalegardencentres.co.uk/cms/events/summer-events/
We finished the morning with an hour in soft play (they have the nicest, cleanest soft play ever at Wyevale Garden Centres – well until my kids went in it was), juice and a biscuit. Perfect morning I’d say.
Thanks to Wyevale Garden Centres to having us over to make bees. It was great fun. We received free craft sessions in return for an honest account of our morning.
